A great limousine company provides outstanding service. It’s that simple. But a great limousine company also has outstanding rates. Take a closer look at how limousine services charge. It may be dissimilar for each company. It’s not like taxis that have meters or zones that it must charge according to preset prices. Limousine companies have the luxuriousness to charge as they see fit for respective services, wait time, cell phone usage, and pick-up schedule and so on. But it doesn’t have to be scary.

Let’s look at respective rate plans that limousine companies offer.

A good example could be mileage charge and waiting time. This is when the company charges their limousine services rates per mile and by time commitment. Usually there is a minimum mileage charge that covers the introductory few miles and a price for any further and added mile. There is also the second element of a wait time. This is for the most part broken out by half hour intervals and does not include the stops that a drive must make en route.

The second rate plan is flat rates. Now companies that offer flat rates ordinarily stipulate that charges are among airports only. For example, if you need a limo to Dulles International airport, it’ll be a sure price. Most limousine services have flat rates for respective airports in your area. Don’t forget there is a waiting charge if the drive has to wait.

The final rate plan that a good deal of limousine services offer is an every hour rate. These services charge an every hour rate with a minimum of a few hours. These services will grant you to be driven anyplace you desire as long as you understand that the time dedication the driver puts in will cost you money. Most limousine services don’t have a waiting time commitment for every hour rates as they offer the introductory 15 minutes of waiting free of charge.

So there you have it. Each rate plan caters to dissimilar needs, whether you need a lift to the airport or a sedan to drive you around town. Picking a limo based on rates will have to take into contemplation the distance to your event, the time of day and the cost. Each company will be competent to provide a rate given you have the right data to provide. Additionally, find services online that will be competent to help with limousine services.

On a final note, just a tip for you to consider that may come helpful when you are going to price out limousine services. Don’t forget that limousine companies will charge a gratuity amount to all charges, these prices range from 5-20%. Secondly, in our economy, a fuel charge will be added as well to all charges.

In this hallucinatory novel, an automobile provides the hellish tableau in which Vaughan, a “TV scientist” turned “nightmare angel of the highways,” experiments with (erotic|sexual pleasure|sexually arousing atrocities amongst automati crash victims, each more sinister than the last. James Ballard, his friend and fellow obsessive, tells the story of this twisted visionary as he careens quickly toward his own demise in an internationally orchestrated car crash with Elizabeth Taylor.

A classic work of cutting-edge fiction, Crash explores both the disturbing significances and horrific future prospects or potentials of contemporary society’s increasing dependence on engineering as intermediary in humane relations.

ReviewJ. G. Ballard’s graphic, violent novel is debatable wherever it is read, even on ‘s own Web page! The book’s characters are obsessed with automobile accidents and are determined to narrate the horrors of the car crash as luridly as possible. In the words of the novel’s protagonist, the wounds caused by automobile collisions are “the keys to a new sexuality born from a perverse technology.” Read this novel and learn why David Cronenberg, who had antecedently adapted Dead Ringers and Naked Lunch for the screen, fought to turn it into his latest film.

Chesser
I have only been aware of this book since the movie was released in 1996. It is amazing that this was actually published almost 30 years ago. I’d love to know how it was recieved back then. This is the 3rd Ballard book I’ve read (Atrocity Exhibition and Concrete Island, were the other 2). He is interested/obsessed with the dehumanizing effect that modern technology is having on the human race.

This is one “icky” read. If you’re revolted by textbook-like discussion of body fluids, trauma wounds, and pathologically self-absorbed human beings…stay away. The character Ballard’s obsession with Gabrielle’s scars from her accident was the most vivid and disturbing image that I will take away from this book…yecch. For all the sex (of any and every flavor you’d can imagine, and some you’d best not) it is written so clinically that it isn’t very erotic. Indeed, I don’t think Ballard (the author) used one four-letter word in the whole story. Now that’s quite a feat in a story that averages a sexual coupling (of whatever with what-have-you)every 2-3 pages.

I bought the three books, because Ballard’s name kept popping up on my reco list (Thanks, Amazon). The synopses sounded intriguing. I like dark stuff, I guess. What’s missing from this work and from “Concrete Island” is humor. For such “out-there” material, Ballard takes everything far too seriously.

Ballard’s ever since I read The Drowned World and The Wind from Nowhere, both dramatic and imposing mood pieces about the end of the world. Ballard’s prose has a heavy, sensual languidness to it suited to these dark themes, some of which derives from his unhurried rhythm and pacing. In fact, his prose seems to have an almost oxymoronic, somnolent muscularity and strength–a quality that certain Buddhist statues, which are said to represent “the spirit of strength in repose”–are also said to possess, interestingly enough. (I suspect Ballard himself would be amused by such a recondite association). And as another reviewer here remarked, perhaps his prose is something of an acquired taste.

But getting back to the book, this story about a strange and disturbing subculture that has evolved a sexual obsession and fetish for crashing automobiles is no doubt one of the more bizarre ideas for a novel ever created. The members even go so far as to create and re-enact fatal “classic” car crashes from the past–such as the one that killed James Dean or Jane Mansfield. Its theme also reminded me of the recent movie, the Fight Club, in its idea of a repressed and narcissistic culture of violence that lies just beneath the surface of our otherwise highly polished, technologically advanced society.

Since I also saw the movie, I thought I would comment on it here. I didn’t think I was going to like the book or the film originally, even though I’m a fan of Ballard’s, but I found I actually liked it a lot despite my initial misgivings. Partly, this was because I happened to hear an interview on the radio where Ballard discussed how he got the idea for the book, and which helped to explain it at least somewhat. Well, maybe. It’s still pretty weird. Anyway, I’ll recount the story here for those who missed the interview. It was on National Public Radio.

Ballard said he got the idea from passing a fatal traffic accident where a beautiful women had been killed, and you could see everything from the road as you drove by. The woman’s body had ended up mostly nude on the rear deck of the passenger compartment, and he said people were driving by gawking at the scene and rubbernecking, and he suddenly got the idea that the whole thing was very erotic for them despite the obviously tragic circumstances and the woman’s untimely death. At that point the link between eroticism, car crashes, and death was made, and he was off and running with his bizzare new story idea.

I thought Spader, Koteas, Unger, and Hunter were excellent in their roles, and that also helped to make an otherwise implausible film more realistic. Of course, it’s a David Cronenberg film, so what was I expecting? Well, I was probably expecting lots of weird sex and violence–such as the scene in his Naked Lunch, based on the Burroughs book, where the guy is getting anally raped by an 8-foot high half-human, half-centipede creature (Ballard, take note). Well, I like his movies usually, but this one was pretty weird even for someone with Cronenberg’s predilection for darkly disturbing themes, and it certainly stands out as one of the more bizarre films on the theme of sex and violence, or on the relationship between sex and violence.

*Irreverent scientific footnote:

And if humans think their sex has an element of violence in it–they should see how marine flatworms do it. It’s called “penis fencing.” The flatworms duel it out with their gigantic penises (eat your heart out, John “H.” Holmes) and the first one to stab his big sharp dork through the skin of the other implants his sperm, causing the other flatworm to become pregnant and give birth whether he wants to or not. Biologists also think that these flatworms were the first multicellular animals to have sexual reproduction as we know it, which means that sex and violence have been linked ever since its earliest evolutionary origins.

*Irrevent literary footnote:

I was in a bookstore recently, and I opened up a book of Greek plays at random, and this was the first line I saw in a play by Euripides: “We are a group of men with large erections; we roam around the city, we take what we want.”

It just goes to show you that those old flatworms and Greeks were on the right track, after all. (Ballard and Cronenberg, take note).

It makes me wonder..

34 of 40 people found the following review helpful.
Definitely Different
By Jeffrey Leach
There are very few books in existence that I know of which can prepare you for Crash. Nauseatingly disgusting and beautiful at the same time, author Ballard tries to find redemption in technological malaise. This is the first book I’ve ever read by Ballard, but if his other works are similar to Crash, he should be better known than he is presently. I should also mention that I’ve never seen the film version of this book. Within a few pages, I realized why Cronenberg made this into a film. Cronenberg has made a name for himself exploring the same bleak landscapes that Ballard apparently works in: namely, the marriage between humanity and technology. Crash shares some attributes with Cronenberg’s Videodrome, at least in my opinion. What is interesting is that Cronenberg didn’t do a film version of Crash much sooner (Crash was published in 1973).

The second thing that hits the senses while reading Crash is the writing style. Cold, detached medical terms jockey with lovingly descriptive phrases concerning technology. Ballard is a magician with the English language and Crash is a first class spell in the syntax department. The first thing that is noticeable, of course, is the sickeningly gory descriptions of car crashes, wounds and … sex. Chins will hit the floor over the sheer magnitude of blood and sex within these pages. But this isn’t violence for the sake of violence; it is a careful constructed theme showing the awful repercussions that technology has wrought on our lives. … The characters are dehumanized, without a doubt, but what Crash does is to show how humans are trying to reconnect to their emotions and humanity. That they choose to do so through the very means that has robbed them of it is the paradox. All of the characters that see car crashes as erotic adventure are essentially lost people. Ballard and his wife Catherine engage in mindless affairs and word games because they have lost their humanity, their sense of being. Car crashes give them a means to attempt to assert some form of dominance over technology, and the fact that Vaughan has more scars than any of the others shows that he is much closer to achieving this than any of the others, explaining his hyper sexuality and dominant position in this group of crash aficionados.

Ballard brings the icons of technology into his story as well. Famous people such as Elizabeth Taylor, whom Vaughan wants to die with in a crash, are people most associated with technology. They are the faces we see in film and television, and could be seen as an organic face of technology. To meld with one of these figures in a crash is to go the extra step. Their death adds an extra dimension to the eroticism. It isn’t just famous people that can bring this about. The character of Gabrielle is important in this context due to her leg braces and spinal supports. Gabrielle’s organic existence, her very energy, is supported by technology. Ballard fantasizes about the metal braces and the special handles she needs in her car, explaining that they open up whole new avenues of eroticism.

Even though I can see the beauty of Ballard’s prose work and understand his connections between technology and humans, this in no way means that this book didn’t disgust me. My stomach occasionally does slow turns when I think back on a particular passage or event, and driving to work and school occasionally makes me feel queasy. The idea of imitating crash positions during …intercourse isn’t going to win over the chicks, either. This is a book that is tough to read but certainly worthwhile. Be careful about recommending this book to people. Some folks are bound to take it the wrong way.

Want to have a golf game with your buddies and the girlfriend wants to spend time with you too? Don’t want to trouble your girlfriend and yet you have been itching for a game of golf with your buddies? Feeling torn apart, aren’t you? Well, here’s a solution for you – book a limousine for a day trip to Crystal Springs Resort in Vernon, New Jersey. While you and your buddies play golf, have your girlfriend and her friends (perhaps even the girlfriends of your golf buddies) get enjoyment from a spa treatment at the very same resort!

Not only will you be competent to get snug and comfortable with your girlfriend in the limousine, you will also be competent to take pleasure in a lot of laughter with your golf buddies too. This is unquestionably one suggestion that neither your girlfriend nor your golf buddies will decline. Once you have set the date and booked the limousine for this trip, you and your loved one and buddies are in for a sensational time.

Crystal Springs Resort is a unquestionably a great place to go, as they are the only resort in the northeast that has six award-winning golf courses, all located within a five-mile radius. Their spa is also a outstanding place for the ladies to be pampered and rejuvenate. Before you go for your golf game, have the limousine driver drop your girlfriend and gang for their spa treatment first. At the Elements Spa, they will be spoilt for choice on the a good deal of dissimilar types of therapies. Interestingly enough, they have a new package added to their list – Girlfriend’s Day Spa Package. Your girlfriend and gang may opt for a two-hour to a full day’s spa excursion, while you and the boys play golf. One of the reasons that make Crystal Springs Resort a great place to play golf is the addition of David Glenz Golf Academy. Another plus point is that their signature hole is the famous eleventh, a par three with the tees located 80 feet above the green on the top of a cliff, overlooking the former Windsor Quarry.

Dinner at Restaurant Latour would be a perfective place to end the day. According to New York Post, it is ranked amongst New Jersey’s top fine dining restaurant. The dress code for this refined and tasteful restaurant? Smart casual, and jackets are not required for the gentleman. After the satisfying dinner, and when it’s time to head on home, you and your girlfriend will be capable to interchange stories in regards to your golf game and her spa experience in the limousine that you have chartered. Isn’t it outstanding that you are capable to fulfill your own desire of a golf game and at the same time make your special one happy?

You will end up having a very tiring trip rather of one that you may enjoy, not forgetting sore, aching legs and perhaps even backaches that you may have after the trip.

Booking a limousine for you and your friends for a trip to Cape May, New Jersey is not a difficult thing to do. When you hire a limousine for your trip, you do not have to have a dispute amid your friends as to who will be doing all the driving. The probabilities of you getting lost do not subsist and you will not have to lose your forbearance over a bad traffic when you book a limousine. You and your limousine friends only need to show up at the meeting point for the limousine driver to pick you up and take you to all the places that you wish to visit.

Next time you visit the wine country, hire yourself a big limousine and follow these simple guidelines:

1. Plan your day around visiting as numerous wineries as possible.

2. Go to the same wineries every one else does. After all, those are the frequent wineries to go to, and they’re more than ready to put a wine glass in your hand.

3. Don’t listen to the tasting room staff, and be specially sure not to ask them too a lot of questions. They’re not salaried sufficient to be welleducated professionals.

4. Have a strong desire to self-medicate. Start your wine tasting early in the day, and get sideways by noon.

5. Get your exercise! Walk back and forth from the limo to the tasting room, and repeat often.

Now THAT’S your kind of wine country vacation, right? Many others just like you think so, too. Aren’t you glad you’re not alone?

Be sure to keep the above guidelines handy, and refer to them often.

A Word to the Wise

Dear reader, as you may have guessed, the 5 guidelines above only apply to April Fools. For the rest of us who might consider ourselves to belong to the more outstanding majority of responsible wine-loving adults, tasting wine is an experience to be savored and discussed, cherished and remembered.

To tour a series of wineries to get a buzz is not what the wine-tasting experience is all about. Wine is food! And like the pleasure that comes from eating your favored cuisine, wine may provide a similar allure. Food and wine, as numerous know, supplement each other well. As with food, if you choose to taste wine, do it because you genuinely get enjoyment from tasting it. But not similar to food, don’t go to a tasting room because you’d rather be drinking a lot of wine. Instead, stay home! But be responsible there, too.

If you would maximize your visit to the wine country, let us then provide contrast to the above guidelines and consider what will grant your wine country vacation to be a unforgettable experience – not just a sideways tour.

5 Ways to Maximize Your Wine-Country Experience

Call it wine country appreciation. Or, call it self-appreciation. In either case, if you would choose to veritably gain from a trip to the wine country, here now are five responsible guidelines signified by letters, rather of numbers, to discern from the list above.

A. Plan your day around visiting the wine country, not just it is wineries.

There are a whole host of fantasti prospects to be found in the wine regions of the world, whether you’re touring the famed Bordeaux region, Oregon’s Willamette Valley, or the up-and-coming Amador County area west of California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range. A visit to these wine regions may include a number of historical, cultural, educational, heritage, and active outdoor pursuits. Quite often, having a local guide may dramatically heighten the personal growth distinct elements of vacationers.

Gaining appeal with today’s travelers are tours ranging from culinary education classes that take place in spectacular settings to wellness retreats that offer exercise and nutrition counseling as well as superb pampering. Or, if you desire to be more active, you may find tours that offer a few days of exploring the flora, fauna, and scenic vistas of local open spaces, then a superb meal with wine tasting. Travelers are progressively booking such tours, and they are trending to a considerable degree toward booking them online on a myriad of tour and travel websites.

B. To in the right manner take delight in your wine-touring experience, choose your winery destination carefully.

Visitors are oftentimes drawn to the frequent wineries that are located alongside the wine country’s main arterial routes; for instance, Highway 29 in the Napa Valley. And yet those are the areas in which you’ll find the more outstanding percentage of vehicle traffic, particularly for the duration of the summer tourist season. Of course, the traffic isn’t just cars, limousines, and tour buses. After you get off the bus or out of your car and into the winery, you’ll often times wait in long lines of humane traffic just to taste a wine or two. Ironically, this may defeat the intention of Guideline A.

Many wineries and lodging operations offer better service and better vacation deals for your dollar for the duration of off-peak seasons. As a result, you’ll find that you get to linger longer at a restaurant or have a speech with a winemaker that goes beyond the merely casual. Having the time to relax and not compete with other tourists on your vacation may dramatically enlarge or increase not only your sense of well-being, but also your wine cognition and your social network.

In addition, there are a great deal of family-owned wineries that are real treasures. It’s easy to overlook them, but once you make the effort to seek them out, you’ll often times be rewarded with an experience that will have you telling your friends regarding them. You may even find the winegrower getting off his tractor to take you for an impromptu tour of his vineyard or winery operation. Of course, he might have you consider purchasing a case of his wines for his trouble. But then, you may likewise find that you’re not paying closely the premium that you’ll compensate at the more ordinary wineries along the main wine roads.

C. The tasting room staff earn their pay, and they do it out of passion. Let them guide you.

The wineries aren’t in business to attract more tourists. They’re in business because they have a clear understanding of the needs of their customers. If you’re not the world’s biggest wine expert, don’t worry! You’re amidst friends. Learning is why you traveled to the wine country in the basi place, and winemakers and their staff love to talk when it comes to what they do. Listen, and ask questions. If you must visit more than one winery, ask the same questions. You’ll heighten your understanding by the answers you’ll hear, and what’s more, you’ll be delighted that you asked.

D. Be to a complete degree conscious of your experience. Participate in it, and find yourself enchanted by it. Don’t desensitize yourself to the magic of the wine country.

“The vantages of wine touring are gorgeous scenery and a new learning experience. The disfavors are that there’s not sufficient wine.”

This author has actually read the above statement in a review by a supposedly-serious wine expert. I’ve heard similar quips from the lips of the not-so-pleasantly plowed. While I might agree with the “advantage” half of that statement, the desired outcome of your wine tour will have to be a quality experience, not a amount experience. Wine touring is not meant to be a dormitory-style competition.

Therefore, pace yourself. Pour the wine you no longer want into the proper receptacle, ordinarily a spit bucket. Spit the wine into the bucket if necessary – it’s utterly satisfactory within the context of tasting wine. But not anyone likes a drunken tourist – not the winery staff, not the patrons, and specially not the wine country police.

E. To in the right manner take pleasure in the wine country, get out of the land yacht and explore your surroundings.

Bring your hiking shoes with you, and find a local trail. Or, if you prefer to connect to your new environs on a deeper level, hire a guide. The reasons that grapes do so well in the wine country are many times the same reasons why most areas surrounding the wine regions of the world offer a number of marvelous outdoor experiences. You’ll find that a walk in the redwoods, an expansive mountaintop view, a remote meadow full of wildflowers, or a glimpse of a bobcat on the trail may heighten your wine country experience in sensational ways.

Plus, the exercise and the fresh air you’ll get from your outdoor excursion will build your anticipation of those fine meals and exquisite wines that you came to the wine country for. They are the reward for your physical efforts, they remainder your intrinsic desire for deeper understanding, and they make your vacation complete.

Went to Frys to buy a new pair (I go through pliers and these last the longest) but they no longer carry the flush cutters. DRATS!!! So, I’m buying them on Amazon. It’s more expensive this way, but in the long run I save money because these pliers make nice cuts and last so much longer than all the jewelry flush cutters out there. If you make wire jewelry, I highly suggest you try a pair.
SusyJewelry

Throughout history, theaters have traditionally been places that humans go to for entertainment. The theatre is a place where people may go to receive pleasure from an opera, ballet, play or a movie. Of all of the forms of amusement that take place in the theatres, movies are a newer art form. Other forms of amusement have taken place for centuries but going to the theatre to see a movie introductory made it’s mark in the early portion of the 20th century.

A movie theater was in the first place called a movie palace. They were beauteous structures where silent films were shown and then later, films with sound. One of the initial movie palaces was built in New York City in 1913. The success of movie palaces were based on it is low admittance price and unreserved seating. During this time, most theater productions were Vaudeville acts which were more highpriced and harder to get seats than going to the movies.

Between 1914 to 1922 there was an elaboration of movie palaces. There were approximately 4,000 new theaters built in the United States built for the duration of this time. Popcorn was introductory served in movie theaters in 1912 as a cheap and delicious snack. In 1907 a movie cost only five cents. This is genuinely where the name “Nickel”odeon came from when referring to movie palaces.

The original air conditioned movie theater was built in 1922. And the initial multiplex for movies was built in 1963. This complex had two full screens and 700 seats. The firstborn drive in theater was built in 1933 and was in the state of New Jersey. The drive-in theater was very popular for the duration of the 1950′s and 1960′s but they have now diminished to a few hundred around the United States.

The firstborn permanent movie house was built in 1902 in California. This theatre was a storefront setup that was percentage of a factory building. In 1905 in Pittsburgh, the primary nickelodeon was built. This theater had five cent movies accordingly the name nickelodeon. They soon became very ordinary and disseminate all around the United States. In Canada, the basi big scale movie theater in the world was built. This was the initial time multiple movies were shown in one facility.

During the 1950′s and 1960′s, some theaters were built throughout the country due to their growing popularity. The theaters were built to attract more patrons. The screens became more prominent and the facilities became more elaborate. The number of seats a theater could hold increased. The theaters included more comfortable seats, air conditioning and stereophonic sound systems.

As the popularity of the movie theaters continued to go, so did the size of the facilities. Large multi-plex theaters were built around buying goods centers. The theaters had stadium seating with multiple balconies. The lobby sizes expanded to capacity other theater rooms within the complex. Multiple restrooms and concession counters were installed. The seats were built on an elevated floor to provide visibility for all seats.

Many other venues were built to show movies. Drive-in movie theatres became very frequent for the duration of the 1960′s. These were outdoor theaters were cars parked infront of an outdoor screen. Moviegoers would watch the films either in their cars or on top of the hood of their car. They were provided with portable speakers to listen the sound or in a good deal of cases the sound came from an FM radio frequency. There are only a few drive-in movie theatres available today.

Apps are no more a geeky stuff, but these bite-size pieces of software have started mattering for businesses like anything. The apps ecosystem has leapfrogged incredibly, from almost nowhere a couple of years back to a multi-billion dollar industry today, with the trend is not apparently settling down in the foreseeable future. This is the high time when you may begin reining the fruits in this emergent business field, peculiarly when the international economy is in the recovery mode.

Most helpful client reviews

10 of 12 humans found the following review helpful.
Don’t let the slow begin to the season fool you…
By jrock81
Let me say that I am a HUGE Always Sunny fan. The basi 5 seasons were not one thing short of pure genius. Needless to say I was pumped for season 6 – but it started off very weak. “Mac Fights Gay Marriage” and “Dennis Gets Divorced” is basically a 2-part opening episode that falls flat. Both of these sequences were poorly written. I thought that this might be the beginning of the end for my favored TV show….

Next up – “The Gang Buys a Boat”. Pow! Always Sunny comes out swinging. The gang buys a “P. Diddy” style fishing boat and hilarity ensues. Some classic one-liners return: Dennis – “Those are barnacles. Do not eat those. Do not cook them in a pot and serve them to us.” Not to mention Charlie finding a horse tooth underneath water and dreaming of a heap of sort of “revolutionary times horse massacre”. Oh wow.

The follow up sequences keep the funny ball rolling – particularly “Mac’s Mom Burns Her House Down” (can you say, a Golden Girls cheesecake situation?). The gang then hits another bump in the road with “The Gang Gets a New Member”, which, in spite of a funny premise, fell a bit short of my expectations.

A bump is all it turned out to be. The final 4 sequences left me in tears. We find out who got Dee pregnant, precisely what “Blackface” is, and why Charlie Kelly is indeed, king of the rats.

This is the best show on TV. Period. I’ve already pre-ordered season 6.

Keep it coming fellas!

Higgins
i’m penitent to confess i gave this 2 stars at first. but after looking at this season a second time, i have to say it in truth wasn’t as bad as i thought. i don’t think it’s as great as the former seasons, but it’s still a hilarious show with a lot of definitive amusive moments. i hope they carry on to include audio commentary and other bonus material in the dvd release. and i’m looking forward to season 7.

13 of 19 people found the following review helpful.
Still great
By BoB
Contrary to other reviews, I’m still loving this series. I’ll admit, the initial two sequences weren’t the best (though they still had very amusive parts – still laugh thinking regarding Mac’s gag reflex), and I just don’t know where the whole pregnancy thing is going, but the show is still a blast. Who Got Dee Pregnant was one of the best sequences yet, eps 8 & 9 were classic for Charlie, and as fans how may you persons not be in love with Lethal Weapon 5? White Trash was pretty fantatstic so far too. All in all not the best season, but I’m still in love, and this is still the best show on television. I’m convinced this season will end in fantastic fashion and have no issues giving this a five star rating with what I’ve seen so far.

The Big Island of Hawaii’s beauty is legendary and it has the most diverse landscape on earth-but it may be as challenging to explore as it is charming. From the icy heights of snow-covered volcanoes, to steamy jungles and tropical beaches, to flowing fields of lava, flower choked canyons and wide-open tropical grassland, it is scenery is unsurpassed. By and huge the quality of your trip to the Big Island will depend on how much of it you choose to see and how you set when it comes to discovering your own Big Island adventures. Below are numerous ideas on the choices for getting to Hawaii and for getting around Hawaii, once you are here.

Another key to the quality of your time on the Big Island has to do with the spirit of aloha. The humans you meet in Hawaii, by and large, tend to be more open and friendly-quick to aid or befriend-than elsewhere. This is the tradition of “Aloha”. When you meet local residents, whether to ask for directions and counsel or to hire services or just in casual conversation, treat them with respect, humor and openness-return their spirit of aloha and you will find your journey, and yourself, deeply enriched for it.

In Hawaii, your smile is your passport.

Getting To Hawaii

The standing joke amid residents of Hawaii when dealing with the time, inconvenience and hassle of traveling to the mainland is: “This applied to be so much more comfortable before the bridge blew down”! Of course, there never was a bridge spanning the roughly 2500 miles amongst the Big Island and mainland USA, but the humor have a tendancy to underline the commitment, planning and time it takes to travel to and from Hawaii.

Flying to Hawaii: Certainly the most common, quickest and least pricey (note I didn’t say “inexpensive”) way to get to Hawaii is to fly. Many major US and international carriers fly to Honolulu on Oahu and and a host of local and international carriers offer flights from there to all the other Hawaiian Islands, including the Big Island. Kona’s airport is the only one on the Big Island that has direct flight connections to the US Mainland, Canada, Japan and Australia. Despite styling itself as “Hilo International Airport”, flights to and from Hilo ONLY connect to other Hawaiian islands.

Although both airports have similar facilities and services, including onsite rental car agencies and access to public transportation, shuttles and taxis, it makes a huge divergence to the traveller where they land. By far the vast majority of visitors to the Big Island stay in either Kona or the Kohala Resorts which are all on the west side of the island and are amidst 20 to 45 minutes from the Kona airport. If you are staying in Hilo, it’s fine to fly in there; however, Hilo doesn’t have the resort facilities, fine beaches and great weather of the Kona side and few tourists opt to stay there anymore. Many people booked into resorts on the west side mistakenly take flights into Hilo, due to the misleading airport name, incognizant (or even misinformed by ignorant but well-meaning travel agents) that they now, at the end of an exhausting day of travel and in the fading twilight of the early tropical sunset, face a drive of almost 3 hours, throughout high mountains and on narrow, winding, unfamiliar roads to get to their resort. They just better hope it doesn’t get started raining, too.

So-know where you are staying, fly into the suitable airport.

Whether you are flying directly into Kona or flying to Honolulu and getting a connecting flight into Kona or Hilo, you want to be sure to reserve a seat so that you see as much of the unbelievable scenery as you can. Since 90% of the flight is over open ocean (which just isn’t as riveting as one might expect) you want to wring the most enjoyment out of those portions of your flight which do feature scenery. If you are original stopping in Honolulu, sitting on the port (left) side of the aircraft for this leg of your trip affords the best views as the plane screams in past Koko Head and over the top of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach, turns around directly over Pearl Harbor and settles in to land at Honolulu International Airport. Sitting on the starboard side is not as spectacular, however, it offers views of Moloka’i and Maui islands, as well as views of Pearl Harbor, the Wai’anae and Ko’olau Mountains of O’ahu and downtown Honolulu just before landing.

Flying into Hilo from O’ahu, one also wants to sit on the port side of the aircraft. The flight path crosses over the islands of Moloka’i and Maui, skims along the eastern margin of Hawaii Island presenting a rich, arousing and attention holding panoply of soaring sea cliffs, jungle canyons and volcanic mountains, jaw-dropping waterfalls and crashing surf along the coast. Flying into Kona either directly or from Honolulu is no less marvelously scenic than flying into Hilo, but one wants to be on the starboard side. This offers the traveller great views of the islands of Maui, Molokini, Lana’i and Kaho’olawe, as well as unbelievable views of the Big Island, Kohala Mountain, Mauna Kea, Hualalai and, on clear days, Mauna Loa as the jet cruises in over the Kohala Coast, making land right over Makalwena Beach and on to Kona International Airport at Keahole.

Cruise Ships and Cargo Ships: There are assorted cruise ship lines which ply the waters of the Hawaiian Archipelago, notwithstanding of the ones that service the Big Island, most require passengers to book for an entire cruise, meaning that altho you may make one or two stops on Hawaii, you will only stay in port for a day, for the length of one night at most, before sailing on. Generally, you cannot arrive on one ship, disembark for a stay, and catch another ship out.

Of increasing popularity, however, is cruising to Hawaii on cargo ships-cheaper than a cruise line and with a altogether open and adaptable itinerary, this is a outstanding substitute to flying. It is both more costly and more time consuming (average sailing is 3 days from Los Angeles to Honolulu, and times are variable for getting from there to the Big Island) than flying, but it is restful, peaceful and unique. Cargo ships offer spacious passenger cabins and, while not the drifting feed-lots that cruise ships tend to resemble, the feed on cargo ships is wondrous and plentiful. Perhaps the biggest drawback of riding cargo ships to the Big Island is that on the east side they dock in, let us say, the less desirable percentage of Hilo; on the west they dock at Kawaihae, halfway amongst Kailua Kona and the resorts of the Kohala coast-in other words, out in the middle of nowhere. Both land numerous miles from resorts and car rental agencies. However, both docking facilities are serviced by taxis and public transportation; if you plan ahead, it will have to present no problem.

Getting Around Hawaii

Shuttles/Taxis/Limos/Tours: Taxis, of course, service both Big Island airports, the metropolitan regions and all the resorts. The taxis, while not cheap, are not as usurious as one might fear and the drivers in general are knowledgeable, friendly, HONEST and veritably nice-it’s that whole aloha thing. Taxi drivers are happy to answer your questions, even the foolish ones you are kind of timid to ask; they will freely give counsel with regards to what to do and see and where to eat and in general undertake to be as helpful as possible. However, some speak in pidgin English that may be almost impenetrable to the newcomers’ ear. Don’t be timid when it comes to respectfully asking him to repeat himself, and again if necessary-he hears that on almost each fare he carries. Ask him to write down place names, restaurant names and such-many Hawaiian words do not look at all like they way he’s saying them and you’ll want to be capable to read the words on maps and signs, or be competent to ask another person, later.

Both Kona and Hilo airports are serviced by point-to-point shuttles and limos, whose prices are actually rather reasonable and surely less highpriced than the taxis. The drawback here is that there will be some humans aboard going to some diverse destinations-so it takes a bit longer than a taxi.

Many of the larger resorts offer a free limo service to and from the airport and a heap of will even arrange to have your rental car waiting for you on-property when you arrive from the airport…check when you make reservations. If available, this is the least personable, but quickest, easiest and least pricey way to get to your lodgings.

Some boutique tours offered by Hostels and the littler tour companies will likewise pick you up at the airport at the beginning of their tours, if your arrival time is commodious to the tour schedule; thus, the cost of getting to your resort is absorbed into the cost of the tour. This option is worth looking into if you are not planning to rent a car for the duration of your stay.

Tipping tour, taxi, limo and shuttle drivers is not only encouraged, it’s their main source of revenue. Remember to return the aloha they showed you.

Rental Cars and Driving Tips: Although some humans opt to not rent cars for the duration of their stay, relying on tours and public transportation to get around, you will have to bear in mind that there is a reason they call it “The Big Island”. Distances among attractions may be long, public transportation schedules are not always commodious and, face it, it’s just a lot freer, posing no difficulty and more independent to have your own wheels. Be sure to exhaustively exploration the online booking agencies before you arrive-ofttimes outstanding deals bundling airfare, room and car rental may be found, exceptionally in the slack seasons.

There are two types of car rental agencies on the Big Island. The major, international car rental agencies are available on property at both airports, giving the visitor a wide selection of corporate deals and specials-particularly flight-room-car combo deals–as well as a diverse palate of available cars. The other option, ofttimes much less costly peculiarly for long term rentals, are the off-property rental agencies. These folks won’t in general pick you up at the airport so you ought to make your way to their in-town offices, but the selection of vehicles, and rates, are in general wider ranged.

If you are underneath 21, the rental companies won’t rent to you. If you are among 21 and 24, they may add a surcharge to the rental that may be as much as twenty-five dollars a day on top of the regular every day fee.

The introductory question the traveller ought to answer for themselves is what kind of vehicle they will want while on the Big Island. Some rental agencies specialize in lavishness and exotic cars–Mercedes, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce and such. Others offer Volkswagen Campers and RVs. Many humans arrive and determine they want to flash around the island in a Mustang or Camaro convertible-which are outstanding and fun, but they offer no security for your personal items and they severely limit the kinds of roads you may drive on, in addition to almost guaranteeing sun and wind burn. If you are coming to explore the island, you ought to consider going to the extra expense of renting a four-wheel drive vehicle-either a jeep or an enclosed SUV. Much of the mountain country and a lot of of the more interesting beaches and canyons require four wheel drive. I suggest an enclosed SUV so you do not have to shout to be heard, as you do in a jeep, and have some more shelter from the elements and from thieves.

Briefly brought up above, RVs and Volkswagen Campers are magnificent ways to see the island and obviate the need for an highpriced hotel. However, RVs are not mutual on Hawaii and there are no RV parks as such; outside of the towns of Hilo and Kona there is nowhere to drain the waste tanks, so you have to be sure to use public facilities as much as possible. But you may park and camp free almost anywhere, though most campgrounds will charge a camping fee for an RV, even if you are camping in the parking lot.

Motorcycles and scooters may be rented in both Kona and Hilo and are a fun way to see the island, until it rains. Which happens. It is likewise difficult to travel with any amount of luggage on a motorcycle. You will detect a burgeoning fraction of the local population zipping in regards to town on scooters (locally, and incorrectly, referred to as “mopeds”). For bikes with engine sizes littler than 50cc, no motorcycle license and no insurance are necessary. The “moped” class vehicle has the same license and road regulatings as a bicycle, so it is not surprising to see them zip along the the roadside, passing cars stuck in traffic, or pop up and run down the sidewalk. If you rent a moped in Hawaii, please don’t drive them the way the locals do; it just isn’t safe. I use a moped closely totally to get around Kailua Town where I live-do not ride your scooter the way you see me ride mine.

The cost of gas in Hawaii is even worse than you’ve been led to believe, so when selecting a rental car, bear this in mind. Costco in Kona has the sheer most inexpensive gas on the island (and it’s handy, near the airport); the gas station off the Akoni Pule Highway in Kohala near mile marker 76 has the most inexpensive gas in Kohala and the Chevron Station at the Airport turn-off in Hilo has the most inexpensive gas in East Hawaii. Remember that the Big Island is for the most part rural-gas stations, specially in the far north and on the south side of the Island, may not keep regular hours or even stick with their posted schedule-especially if the surf is up or the fishing is good. In general, outside of the urban areas of Kona and Hilo, gas is hard to find after when it comes to 6 in the evening. I personally don’t ever let my gas tank get more than half empty, ever, just for this very reason. Certainly, you must never let it get more than half empty when on the south side of the Island; you ought to make a point to fill up before late afternoon when you have the chance, unquestionably before you go into Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (you’ll stay longer and use more gas than you planned because, trust me, it’s the coolest place, ever) and before crossing the Saddle Road.

Driving times amongst attractions on the Big Island are longer than you might expect, given the actual mileage amongst points of interest. This is in percentage because much of the “highway” system is composed of winding, narrow, two-lane blacktop with a speed limit of 35 miles an hour. Another reason drives take longer than expected is because you are going to want to pull over and look, stop and explore, take your time and enjoy. As the bumper sticker says: “Slow down, Brah-dis ain’t da mainland!” On this note, a good deal of local residents will pass on hills and blind corners, even into oncoming traffic; they recognise the road, you don’t-don’t follow their lead. Trying to drive like the locals drive is like jumping into the ocean and attempting to surf like they surf-it just isn’t a in truth bright idea. Local habit is to eschew use of turn signals and horn; this is another habit you shouldn’t emulate.

The police on the Big Island are well-trained, severe professionals. However, most cruise around in their personal cars (with a blue light on top) and may be very hard to spot (a Ford Mustang or Toyota Rav4 with a light bar? It happens…). They are particularly severe regarding drunk drivers, speed limits and child restraints/seal belts. Aloha, respect and honestness go a long way toward making any interactions with the Hawaii County Police more pleasant. This isn’t Louisiana or a lot of Third World banana republic-do not even think of providing a bribe if you are stopped by a Hawaii County Police Officer. On the topic of police, it is local habit to flash your brights at on-coming traffic if there is a cop behind you. Participate in this at your own discretion, but this is the reason all those people are flashing at you.

There are feral goats and sheep (feral donkeys along the highway in Kohala!), wild pigs, feral cats and dogs that present driving hazards, specially at night. Fruit such as mango, avocado and guava oftentimes fall, en masse, into the road and fabricate a slimy hazard, in particular to motorcycles. In town, watch for cyclists, pedestrians and skateboarders (check out those guys skateboarding to the beach with their surfboards under their arms!). Kailua Kona is the proud home to the Iron Man World Championship Triathlon and a heap of runners and cyclists totally utilize, and rigorously defend, their rights of way; smile, wave and yield, OK? You came to have fun: relax. The Big Island is likewise Big Sky country…driving east into the sunrise or west into the sunset is painful and hazardous; undertake to plan your day to stay clear from this.

Do not leave valuables in your car, not even the trunk. Ever. The locals are friendly, but but some are frisky and high value items will evaporate from your car with alarming alacrity. Consider any spot frequented by visitors to be at risk for theft, even if you only are going a hundred feet from your car.

Many roads, intersections and attractions are poorly marked and what signs subsist are in Hawaiian, which is hard to read, harder to do not forget incisively the name of the place you are searching for. When you ask directions, have the person write down the name of the place. Many residents are in the habit of giving directions in terms of landmarks that mean not one thing to you (“Remember where Uncle Kealea had the fruit stand 20 years ago? You want to go just all over Aunty Tutu’s pig farm from there to where the coconut grove applied to be…”) so have them show you on a map. Be sure they commence by pointing out where you are, right now. Respect, humor and aloha will support get you where you are going.

Along these lines, numerous tourists fetch their GPS from home to aid navigate-be sure to download the maps for Hawaii before you come; some brands of GPS do not offer Hawaii coverage. A few of the rental car agencies have GPS units for rent at reasonable prices. The best solution, however, are the folks at Tour Guide Hawaii (808.557.0051; http://www.tourguidehawaii.com) who offer a hand-held computer with an onboard GPS at very reasonable rental rates. They have stuffed into this device over six hundred points of interest (did you listen that? 600!) of recreational, cultural and historical importance. They have produced a short audio/video presentment for each site, telling you all with regards to it, the history and culture, what to bring, what to do while there; they even have the public restrooms listed! These demonstrations play as you approach the points of interest, or may be searched for at any time or location. Thus, the device may be used to preview all the internet sites around the island in the ease of your hotel room, pre-plan trips or to get data and turn by turn navigation on the road. Combining cutting-edge engineering and old-fashioned story-telling, the unbelievably easy to use, fabulously informative and wondrous fun Tour Guide Self-Guided GPS Tours are an awful bargain and a outstanding way to see Hawaii. They are now providing a pared-down version (45 of the top sites-iAND the restrooms!) that is downloadable to iPhone and iPod.

Commercial Tours: Whether or not you rent a car, mercantile tours offer a great way to get oriented to the island and listen a bit regarding the history and regarding the culture of our home. Tours come in all sizes and description, from the taxi driver who makes it up on the fly as he takes you to dinner, to individualized taxi tours lasting a half to a full day, to specialized van tours and large, full day, round the island tours in full-size motor coaches. There are bus tours to the summit of Mauna Kea, tours through the coffee country of Kona, tours to see the volcano, historical tours-tours of all lengths and covering just when it comes to anything and everything you want to see. Some tours include meals-one even takes you to a real, working ranch for a barbecue! Then there are the highly specialized tours: fixed wing and helicopter tours of the island, whale and dolphin observing tours, snorkel tours, sunset cruise tours, coordinated bicycle tours, powered hang-glider tours, tours of Kailua Bay in a submarine and even boat tours to see the lava flowing into the ocean. Although they may be somewhat spendy, most are entirely worth the price. Be sure to shop around for the right tour at the right price to suit your interests.

Bicycle Rental: There are assorted places where you may rent bikes on the Big Island-and it’s very pleasant to spend the day pedaling through Hilo and Kailua Kona. However, troubles of weather (hot sun, torrential downpour!), the long distances amongst points of interest and the ever-present, enormous volcanoes (think: “HILLS!”) preclude this as a major method of exploration, except for the most avid bike tourer.

Public Transportation: The Hawaii County-run Hele-on Bus travels most of the Island, and makes finelooking good time-the good news here is that riding the bus is free…the bad news is that it is scheduled to get workers amongst the big resorts in Kona and Kohala and the little towns all all over the island where they live. As such, the bus schedule may not be commodious for the visitor nor conducive to exploration. However, it’s very handy if you just want to go someplace and spend the day there. Be sure you perceive the bus schedule, however, as numerous places only are serviced twice a day by bus (one in-bound and one out-bound trip per day) and if you miss your return ride and have to find an alternate way back to your hotel, you will quickly learn why they call this “The Big Island”!

Walking and Hitch-hiking: Two words here: BIG ISLAND. It is possible to hike all over the Big Island (I’ve done it both west-to-east and south-to-north; heck, in 2008 a wheel chair athlete rolled his wheel chair from sea-level in Hilo 37 miles and 13,800 feet in elevation up to the summit of Mauna Kea-did you catch the part when it comes to “wheel chair athlete”?), but the long distances, rural nature (it’s an impracticably long way amidst places to get food, water and to camp) and intense sun make this an epic adventure, not a restful sight-seeing vacation. Both Hilo and Kailua Town are comfortable and safe to walk around, but getting to beaches, waterfalls and other points of interest is difficult on foot.

Until very lately hitch-hiking was a mutual and respectable way to get around the island-if you were a local, everyone either knew you, or your aunty; if you were a visitor, your singularity made you interesting and so it was very safe, as well. Although probably just as safe today, with the explosion of mainlanders moving to our island (who may be reluctant to offer rides), I detect a sharp decline in the number of hitch-hikers on the roads now. Hitch-hiking is legal from the roadside, as long as you are not in the road, presenting a hazard to yourself or an impediment to traffic. If you hitch-hike use your judgement, be home before sundown and refuse to ride with drunks or folks of questionable reputation or cleanliness. Do not ride in the backs of pick-up trucks.

So-armed with this information, you are now better prepared to valuate your choices for exploring the distinctive and varied landscapes, experiences and delectations of Hawaii-your adventures are fixed only by your imagination. Remember that attitude in Hawaii is essential to the quality of your vacation-the spirit of Aloha is pervasive. When angry, lonely, confused, frustrated, tired or bored, recall what I said: “In Hawaii, your smile is your passport”

The official World Cup dart board since 1998, the 100-percent staple-free DMI Bandit bristle board is veritably state of the art. The regulation-size 18-inch-diameter board offers such features as a patented razor-thin spider that minimizes bounce-outs, 10 percent more playing surface than other dart boards, a high-grade sisal that develops a clean appearance, and powder-coated number wiring that improves visibility. Adding to the Bandit’s longevity is a movable number ring that prolongs the life of the board over time. And if that weren’t enough, the DMI Bandit is endorsed by national dart associations the world over. Measuring 1.5 inches thick, the board comes with both mounting hardware and official game rules for Cricket and 01. It’s also backed by a one-year warranty.

When your darts are pulled from the board galore type of dust seems to come out with them and may make a bit of a mess inside your case. The outer ring (with the numbers) have a tendancy to come loose and has to be re-adjusted much more ofttimes then it must be. Other then that, the board performs as expected, and as I said with very few bounceouts.

Our league not long back changed over from the Bandit to the Winmau Blade III, and we’ve been getting significantly more bounce outs since we switched. The frame (recessed in both boards) seems more inviolable in the Bandit–the top of one of our Winmau D20s has been bent down by darts wiring out and pushing the frame inwards in only a couple months of tournament play, which makes doubling in and out much more challenging (easily fixed by rotating the board, but who wants a bent frame?). Both boards are splendid overall and I’d commend either above others I’ve played on; but while the Winmau might have a more classic ‘look’, in terms of overall quality and function, I’d unquestionably give the nod to the Bandit.

However, Limoges porcelain is a generic term for porcelain invented in Limoges rather than at a specific factory.
